Filmmaker Ken Burns say that Louis Armstrong is to music "what Einstein is to physics, what Freud is to medicine and what the Wright brothers are to travel."

But having a career spanning five decades can have its backsides. Burns continues, saying "by the time a nascent militant black movement was started, he [Armstong] looked like an Uncle Tom".
