Metaphors of growth and interconnectivity

Last night, I attended a pleasant concert organized by the County of Istria in memory of Sergio Endrigo, an emigrant who gained fame as a singer/songwriter in Italy during the 1960's & 70's. One of the songs in yesterday's concert was ci vuole un fiore, technically a children's song, but containing great metaphors that could be interpreted on various levels. The text is by Gianni Rodari, with music composed by Sergio Endrigo. Here it is sung by Sergio and his daughter in 1974:
