Museum interactives - sensation and information

The BBC has filmed during a tour of the new California Academy of Sciences building in San Francisco, which will have its grand opening tomorrow. The video can be viewed at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7636524.stm. Take a look at the interactive display on water half-way through the film. This is a more advanced version of gesture recognition system for using databases than I have seen before. The idea is similar to that developed for the instrument database in the Music Gallery at the Horniman Museum in London, but here there is a projection onto a table covered in condensation to give added tactile interaction.

Mixing sensation with information like this might be something for other museums to think about.
